Breakwater Building Remodel
Mark Myrsell
Aberdeen, Washington
The Breakwater Building is located on the
Wishkah River, and was built shortly after Aberdeen’s “Black Friday”
fire of 1903. The building is pile supported, with exterior walls made
of reinforced concrete, and interior wood roof framing and floors. It
was originally constructed in what was then the downtown core area for
business and “entertainment”.
The new owner purchased the building and
began renovations in 2006. In July of 2007, a fire gutted four
buildings, including the Breakwater Building. The owner is now
repairing that damage so that the renovations can begin again.
Harbor Architects will assist the owner with
the renovation of the building, working with a structural engineer to
prepare a structural evaluation, and assisting with the addition of a
partial third floor.
